junger Hund Explanation: While Welpe is the correct term for a puppy, it's the technical term, i.e. a term a breeder would use. In everyday German, you would not say "wir haben einen Welpen" or "unser Hund ist noch ein Welpe", but you'd say "wir haben einen jungen Hund" or "unser Hund ist noch jung". I understood your question to be more general in nature and to use the term puppy in the more general context of just referring to a young dog. Thus I'd use "junger Hund". |
