Thank you very much for your input; I guess you are correct, though, I should explain a bit more:
everybody has to show an ID, except the VIP who is accompanied by a body guard.
In this case only the body guard may be asked to present an ID (optional), not the VIP.
The point is, the guard MAY check the body guards's ID, but does not have to. Neither can the body guard expect to be let through without showing a proper ID.
I hope this has clearified the matter.
Under these circumstances, I don't think your translation would be adequate. I thank you anyway.
