John, vielen Dank auch für Deine Antwort, die ebenfalls sehr hilfreich war wegen der Alternativtermini und der zitierten Quellen. Danke auch an Wolf, aber ich denke, bei der Wahl des Terminus steht hier eher das Einsatzgebiet des Materials im Vordergrund (im Gegensatz zu seiner geologischen Herkunft).

are we perhaps talking about sands that
have an almost spherical shape as in
Formsande for foundry use as well to ensure maximum volume and
minimum free space?This type of sand comes from places like Erkrath and you may want to look it up there.

... werden diese Schichten mit dem Frac-Verfahren aufgebrochen. Dazu wird eine Flüssigkeit unter hohem Druck, meist mehrere 100 bar, in die Lagerstätte gepresst. Sie reißt die Risse im Gestein weiter auf und macht es so durchlässiger. Damit sich die Risse bei nachlassendem Druck nicht wieder schließen, gibt man der Frac-Flüssigkeit Stützmittel wie Sand, Glasperlen oder Aluminiumkügelchen bei.
