English term or phrase: life continuum
Most people would probably translate it as "Lebenskontinuum". But I'm not very happy with this as it sounds quite esoteric. "Lebensablauf" maybe?

Explanation:
Der mittlerweile gegebene Kontext legt für mich nahe, dass es hier nicht um die Grenzen individuellen Lebens geht (Lebensverlängerung mittels Gentechnik o.ä.), sondern um die Abgrenzung dessen, was überhaupt "lebendig" genannt werden kann, was also der "Welt des Lebendigen" angehört.
