Hallo,
als philosophisch leider nicht allzu bewanderter Mensch habe Probleme mit der Übesetzung von "ontology" in diesem Zusammenhang.
Würde es passen bzw. Sinn machen, das obrige Beispiel als "eine bestimmte Ontologie oder Form des Staates" zu übersetzen? "Eine Ontologie des Staates" klingt eigenartig.
Der gesamte Kontext (New Political Economy, Vol. 6, No. 3, 2001, p. 413) lautet wie folgt:
"The ‘welfare state’ concept is used in at least three ways that may overlap and
do not exhaust the possibilities. It can signify:
1. (The dominant characteristics of) the postwar ‘golden age’ period of capitalism—
usually in the form of the ‘Keynesian Welfare State’;
2. A distinct ontology or form of the state (what the state is), usually involving
guarantees of ‘full social citizenship rights’; or
3. Sectors of state activity—such as income maintenance, health care and
education (a welfare state is something that a state has, or refers to things that
it does)."
Explanation: oder Ontologie / Metaphysik des Staates. 'ontology' steht ja alternativ zu 'form of the state', und die wird auch noch erklärt: usually involving
guarantees of ‘full social citizenship rights’. D.h., der Staat bezieht eindeutig Stellung...

'distinct' scheint mir in diesem Zusammenhang mit 'ausgeprägt' (im Sinne von unterscheidbar, klar, eindeutig) treffender übersetzt als 'eine bestimmte...'

Asker: Hallo, ich bitte um Entschuldigung für die Verspätung. Im Text wird die Ungenauigkeit des Terminus "Wohlfahrtsstaat" thematisiert. Der Autor Daniel Wincott differenziert am Beispiel eines zentralen Textes der vergleichenden Wohlfahrtsstaatsforschung diese drei Formen der Begriffsverwendung.
