English term or phrase: piping failure

From a test report about the laminating of a book cover/spine:
'A sample of a hard backed book XXXX sent for lab analysis following a piping failure on the spine of the book.'
Unfortunately the exact nature of the failure is not described in more detail, it seems though that the problem is the laminate film coming off.
I just can't find any translation for piping that would fit here. My best educated guess :-) would be 'Hohlraumbildung', but I would really like something to support this...

Explanation:
Das dürfte es sein. "piping" bedeutet in der Giessreie "Lunkerbildung". Und iin der Giesserei ist ein Lunker ein Hohlraum.

Korrektur. Giessreie -> Giesserei
Natürlich könnte auch Blasenbildung einfacher verständlich und dasselbe sein.

Beispiltext zu Blasenbildung:
"Mit einem Industrieversuch konnte untersucht werden, welche Parameterkonstellationen nach erfolgter Hochfrequenztrocknung
zu **Blasen in der Kaschierfolie** von Umschlägen dispersionsklebegebundener Broschuren führen oder wann Spaltungen im Gefüge des Umschlagkartons auftreten."

Sogar von "Tunnels" kann die Rede sein. Siehe:
"Diese Werkstoffe tendieren dazu, ab einer gewissen Temperatur auszugasen, was zu Blasen oder Tunneln zwischen dem Paneel und der Kaschierfolie führen kann. Die Konditionierung vor der Beklebung solcher Platten über Nacht in einem Raum bei mehr als 60 °C kann derartige Schäden vermeiden."

Ja, Blasenbildung tönt in unseren Ohren besser, aber ich frage mich, warum der Autor nicht "Blistering" geschriben hat, sondern dieses eigenartige "Piping", worunter man sich etwas längliches vorstellt.
