English term or phrase:attendants
A religious ceremony is considered a very traditional wedding. It would take place in a house of worship such as a church or synagogue. It would be officiated by a rabbi, a minister or member of the clergy. Traditional religious ceremonies usually call for formal wear with a number of attendants and very traditional music.

I think you were on the right track, Alexandra. But I'm more used to *attendants* referring to the ushers at a wedding. The German *Platzanweiser* isn't too wonderful, of course, but I can't think of a better term at the moment.
Jonathan: I think the question here is also whether your assumption from 8:55 am is correct. To me it sounds rather like your comment from 8:57 am. I'm not saying I'm definitely right but the first word that popped up was "Brautjuengfer".
"attendants" can mean either "those in attendance", or "young women who assist the bride", i.e. bridesmaids - in this specific instance though I'd tend toward "those in attendance". Perhaps this has yet another significance for Jewish weddings?
Explanation: Ja, "attendants" bedeutet manchmal Brautjungfer, aber die Betonung der religiöse Aspekte bringt mich auf die Idee, daß es um irgendwelche Kirch- bzw. Synagogendiener geht, bei den Katholiken sowas wie Laienbrüder.
