English term or phrase: rather pull down and not set up for it

"As we speak, here we go Stockland, a little bit out of control here, Lyle’s fallen off the back of that one. This is going to open it up for second place."

"Yeah, we had a bit of a, got caught, one of the rails got caught in that [wave?], and checked the boat, so **rather pull down and not set up for it** we thought, we'd wait for the next one."
