In einem Notfall auf dem Schiff sollen sich die Passagiere und Besatzungsmitglieder in einem Sammelpunkt sammeln, am besten "with their hands in clear view".

the "hands" are definitely not the crew. The whole sentence:

b/ in the event of imminent boarding by pirates, all remaining crew can also muster, preferably seated with their hands in clear view.
This is not as straightforward as it appeared at first sight. Daniel, perhaps you could quote the complete sentence, just to clear things up? If the "hands" are the crew, then the "their" is a bit strange. But it would make sense if the crew had to be in clear view once everyone is on deck in order to take orders.

Bei einer Ansammlung von Personen würde das heissen "hands up" oder "Hände hoch". Passt wohl eher in ein Western oder eine Krimi, oder?

Asker: Danke Goldcoaster, aber bei "all hands on deck" sind bestimmt nicht die Passagiere eingeschlossen. "Hand gegen Koje" bedeutet ja eben, dass für die Mitnahme auf dem Boot Mitarbeit geboten wird.
Asker: Und das "their"? Das würde dann aber nicht passen.
Asker: Natürlich hat das "their" nichts mit dem deutschen Text zu tun, aber viel mit dem englischen. Ich sehe an keiner Stelle, dass sich Passagiere "gut sichtbar" sammeln sollen. Schon eher sollten sie "their hands" gut sichtbar halten.
