Explanation:
This is not really an English idiom - as Kim and Andy pointed out, you would rather say * stick your head in the sand* if you want to convey that someone deliberately ignores things. Maybe it is meant as a(reversed) allusion to the American movie: A hole in The Head (German: eine Nummer zu gross)? Just an idea to confuse you completely.
