in any case, trimming (see link) here should mean to raise or lower the engine. Also explained in Hildegard's first link.

If you could post the sentence before and after, it might help to get the right (a better) phrasing for this one.

For the fastest takeoff, trim the motor full down. With this trim angle, the propeller is trying to lift the transom, and the cavitation plate is serving as a trim tab of sorts. The effect of this is a faster planeoff, which typically occurs at 20-25 mph.

This picks the bow up, making the boat easier to steer and relieving wheel torque. Finding the right trim setting is a matter of feel. Asker: Hi Bernhard, this is a previous sentence that might help you to get a clearer picture: "Again we look back backwards from Sonja Brit's boat and you can see quite a violent spray coming off those boats. The propellers just touching the water and the back of the sponsors [sic!] barely touching the water. At times these boats are not boats, they become aircraft." As for the commas, most of them are missing in the original text.
