English term or phrase: one paced
(And here's another mystery from my horse racing translation:)
I am translating a horse racing game and this is how one of the horses is described:

Soon picks up the chase though seems one paced thereafter.

I am not even sure whether this is really a special horse racing term. I have found out that it could be a special gait but at the same time an English native speaker told me it might just be a different word for "slow". Not sure what to make of this one. :(

Thanks a lot for your help!
