Eine Suite von Software Anwendungen

Explanation:
Except for the 'Anwendungen' you will find that those terms don't get translated, and 'applications' sometimes turns into 'Applikationen'.

ein Paket von Softwareanwendungen

Explanation:
Als weitere Möglichkeit gibt es "Programmfamilie" (Vittorio Ferretti: Wörterbuch der Datentechnik).

"protocol suite" dagegen ist "Protokollstapel".

Explanation:
I do not think it is necessary to use an English term in another language just because many people are familiar with the English term. If there is an accurate, widely used, German term that is not too complicated or long, then we should probably use it. If your customer wants to use the English term, let her/him be the Angeberin/Angeber, not you.

Not only this site:

http://194.153.104.32/test/software/buero/lotussmartsuite9_5...

"Gutes Paket mit kleinen Macken - Die SmartSuite hat sich seit einigen Jahren seinen festen Platz im Markt der Office-Pakete erobert. Grund ist nicht zuletzt die einfache Bedienung und nützliche Programme für die tägliche Arbeit."

but Lotus/IBM themselves rarely use the word "suite" to describe "
their Program-Paket "Lotus SmartSuite" when writing in German. Over and over again they use the German word "Paket" for "suite", for example:

http://www.lotus.de/home.nsf/35501f137135f581c1256733004f750...

"Desktop-Anwendungen

Lotus SmartSuite Millennium Edition

"Die Lotus SmartSuite Millennium Edition für Windows (95/98 und NT) ist ein komplettes 32-Bit-Büropaket, das äußerst leistungsfähige und dennoch einfach zu bedienende Anwendungen enthält, die sich durch eine unübertroffene Fähigkeit zur Teamarbeit und Einbeziehung von Internetstandards auszeichnen."

Lotus used "Anwendung" for "Application in the above sentence.

Even "Mighty Microsoft" uses "Paket" to describe "Office 2000 Premium" at this site:

http://www.microsoft.com/germany/office/produkte.htm

"Für jeden Anwender das passende Paket.
Office 2000 wird in vier verschiedenen Programmkombinationen erhältlich sein - abgestimmt auf Ihr individuelles Nutzerprofil: Von der Standard Edition, mit den vier populärsten Programmen, über das Businesspaket, das auf die Bedürfnisse kleinerer Unternehmen abgestimmt ist, bis hin zur Premiumausgabe, die alle neun Office-Programme enthält."

and at this site Microsoft also uses the word "Anwendung" for "Application" even though they use the English word "Desktop" because "Benutzeroberfläche" is long and umständlich:

http://www.microsoft.com/germany/office/features/default.htm

"Aus diesem Grund benötigen Unternehmen Desktopanwendungen, die Kosten reduzieren und Zusammenarbeit fördern."

I have to agree with "Software" too. I do not think we can come up with a good German German term for "Software".
