Explanation: The only correspondence I found is the following: www.luitpoldschott.de/englisch/sco-e021.html http://www.luitpoldschott.de/deutsch/industrie.html has Vitaulic high pressure concrete hose couplings = Betonschlauchkupplungen These 2 URLs show the same picture on the company's English and German websites, resp. While it seems that there is a "Vitaulic Corporation of America", they do not seem to have a website. See www.cba.uiuc.edu/CCS/intro/ccscrc.htm www.csemag.com/pfire.asp I am guessing that Vitaulic developed some sort of a fitting that has become an industry standard and has been named after the company. If you search on "vitaulic", you'll find quite a few websites with pictures of the various types of couplings that are referred to as "Vitaulic". I couldn't quite determine whether it's the material or the manufacturing process that makes a coupling "Vitaulic". It does not seem to be the shape. Sorry I couldn't be of more help. |

Victaulic Explanation: As it turns out, it should be Victaulic, it's a brand name, and this is what it's about (from "About Victaulic" at www.victaulic.com): "Victaulic® originated the grooved piping method in 1925 to provide fast, easy assembly for a wide range of applications. It is generally more economical than welding, threading or flanging, offering total installed cost savings of 10 to 30 percent compared with these alternatives. The economics of the grooved method derive from simplified assembly which involves three basic concepts -- a pressure-responsive gasket that creates a leak-tight seal; couplings that hold the pipe together; and fasteners that secure the couplings. A groove is rolled or cut into the end of the pipe to engage the couplings, whereupon the gaskets seal on the outside diameter of the pipe. The sealing action is enhanced as the couplings are tightened and by line operating pressure or vacuum" Why then all the Google "vitaulic" hits and the blank link to American Vitaulic corporation? (I found all the same things as uel). Well, perhaps it's just a corruption because vitaulic is easier to say. What put me on the track was a products list containing some new Victaulic items.
