After failure at site, further investigation established the motor data plate only rated the unit at 123KW.

What is "motor data plate" here, and what would be the correct translation of "rated" in this context (einschätzen, berechnen?)?

... auf dem Typenschild des Motors war die Leistung der Einheit (des Geräts, der Anlage, des Motors, was auch immer Du aus dem Kontext weißt, was gemeint ist) mit 123 kW spezifiziert.

Das only fehlt noch - nur mit 123 kW spezifiziert (angegeben, wenn spezifiziert nicht gefällt). Einschätzen, berechnen und einstufen sind m. E. zu ungenau für eine präzise Angabe eines Wertes.

I guess the link below will help. It is just a plate with information about the motor.
I would use "einstufen" for "rate" in this context
