Kannst du mir sagen, wo du warst?/Können Sie mir sagen, wo Sie waren? Lass uns nachsehen/Lassen Sie Explanation: German is my mother tongue. Mats is a Swede! And his answer (second sentence) is grammatically wrong. Either: 'Lass uns nachsehen...' 'lass uns der Sache nachgehen...' lass uns danach suchen... or if you need to use the polite form with 'Sie' : 'Lassen Sie uns nachsehen...' 'Lassen Sie uns der Sache nachgehen...!' 'Lassen Sie uns danach suchen!' Moreover, in German you need a question mark after the first sentence because it is a question. Rather obvious. And the second sentence's meaning is not unambiguous. Therefore my various proposals. - In conclusion - I think Kudoz is increasingly abused of to get one's entire translation done by other people. Any translation difficulty is forwarded to kudoz. My goodness - I thought this was an expert forum for _professionals_?! I am German - unlike Mats - and have 16 years of professional translating experience |
