I've checked with the following site:

which shows a photo of the function and re-checked in German at:

http://www.baxrainer.at/psp4/pindex2.htm

which shows the same image, and they call it Marmoreffekt und -schrift which comes close to the effect the function is to produce (at least IMHO)

This was what I was actually looking for. Thanks to all the others, it was very difficult to choose and all the answers were great. I didn't have any context myself but after speaking to the client this was the term needed.

"The Chisel function creates a border around the image and gives
the appearance that the image has been chiseled out of granite." (1st URL)

A Google search for the 2nd URL below shows that there are plenty of sites using "Meißel" for graphics functions (not all appear applicable).

My suggestion above is a short form. Longer, such as "Farbe mit der Meißelfunktion" might be better, depending ion your context.

Explanation:
Ein kleiner Nachtrag: ich nehme tatsächlich an, dass die Begriffe eine Tätigkeit beschreiben, die mit Hilfe einer Funktion gleichen Namens ausgeführt wird, so wie man in Word zum Einfügen einer Tabelle die Funktion "Tabelle einfügen" verwendet (und von einer *Einfügetabelle würde ja nun wirklich niemand reden).
Denkbar wäre allerdings auch, dass Chisel Text ein Objekt meint: den gemeißelten Text, und Chisel Color die Farbe der beim (virtuellen) Meißeln entstandenen Schnittfläche - die lässt sich z.B. bei Paintshop Pro nämlich einstellen.

Im Übrigen bitte ich nochmals um Entschuldigung wegen des unwirschen Peer-Grades, hier hat Alexander eine schlechte Laune abbekommen, für die er wirklich nicht kann.
