Identifikationsnummer für eine virtuelle Verbindung innerhalb eines sogenannten virtuellen Pfades bei ATM. In einem virtuellen Pfad werden mehrere virtuelle Verbindungen zusammengefasst (VC), die wiederum durch die VCI-Nummer identifiziert werden. Die Kombination aus VPI und VCI ist für eine Verbindung die eindeutige Identifikation. "
