I understand avatars are Anzeigebilder that you can add to your own name or names on your contact list to personalise them. But what happens when they are "auto-populated from device contacts"? Does this mean some information is automatically included? And how do you say that in German?

auto-populate bedeutet, wie schon richtig vermutet, dass Informationen automatisch übernommen werden (diese Funktion gibt es auch in einigen CAT-Tools). Hier werden sicher automatisch die Kontaktdaten die man z.B. im Adressbuch von Outlook hinterlegt hat, den Anzeigebildern (je nach Kontext geht auch Avatar) zugeordnet.
