He sent his letter by dispatch. this seems odd to me, could it mean by dispatch courier? In which case either Kurier or Versand Kurier might be approriate?
Certainly not 'telegram'
My understanding is that Versandweg refers to mail order, which doesn't seem to be the case here, others may know better.

Vielleicht auch einfach "auf dem Postweg", um die Doppelung zu vermeiden, die sich durch Übersetzung von "sent" ergeben könnte.
@Asker: Ohne Kontext ist es fast unmöglich zu entscheiden, ob "dispatch" im Sinne von "eilig", als "Versand" oder wie auch immer zu verstehen ist. Zum Telegramm gehört für mich die Wendung "by wire", so dass ich eher zum Versandweg tendiere...
