Der Begriff wurde laut Sicco Van Gelder von Adam Morgan (Eating the Big Fish: How Challenger Brands Can Compete Against Brand Leaders, 1999) geprägt. Ich konnte keine deutschsprachigen Verweise auf die Bücher finden.


Sicco Van Gelder unterscheidet innerhalb der örtsüblichen Konventionen 3 Konventionen, die die Markenwahrnehmung beeinflussen:
- needs conventions (Bedürfniskonventionen)
- cultural conventions (kulturelle Konventionen)
- category conventions (innerhalb von Produkt- bzw. Dienstleistungskategorien geltende Konventionen)
Er beschreibt category conventions folgendermassen (S. 71 unten): In every product or service category, there are customs and unwritten rules that most if not all players abide by.

Ich würde bei Konventionen bleiben, da dies in die Aufzählung passt. Möglich wäre natürlich, den englischen Begriff zu übernehmen und ihn in einer Fussnote zu erklären.
