Science - Zoology | | English term or phrase: mound builders | Diesmal geht es um Vögel, die im Regenwald leben und auf dem Boden brüten. Im Prinzip weiß ich, was mit *mound builders* gemeint ist. Das sind Vögel die Hügelnester bauen. Aber ich suche die spezielle deutsche Bezeichnung dafür. Ich würde "Hügelbrüter" verwenden, aber ich bin nicht sicher, ob das stimmt. Vielleicht kennt jemand den passenden Ausdruck?

Großfußhühner oder Wallnister nennt man Scharrvögel, welche Oceanien und insbesondere Australien bewohnen und sich durch das Brutgeschäft nicht bloß von allen ihren Verwandten, sondern von allen Vögeln der Erde unterscheiden. Alle Wallnister nämlich bringen ihre ungewöhnlich großen Eier in einem aus Erde und Blättern zusammengescharrten Nesthügel unter, in welchem sich durch Gährung der Pflanzenstoffe so hohe Wärme erzeugt, daß das Ei zur Entwickelung gelangt.
