| English term or phrase: ADR (Automatic Dialogue Replacement) | | Recording new dialogue or re-recording dialogue where the production sound is unusable or obscured. In filmmaking, dubbing or looping is the process of recording or replacing voices for a motion picture. The term is most commonly used in reference to voices recorded that do not belong to the original actors and speak in a different language from the one in which the actor is speaking. "Dubbing" can also be used to describe the process of re-recording lines by the actor who originally spoke them. This process is technically known as automated dialogue replacement, or ADR. Music is also dubbed onto a film after editing is completed. A system used to dub new or improved dialogue. Instead of the older looping method, the soundtrack and film are played forward during the act of dubbing and then, if needed, rewound quickly back to the beginning for another try. It is still referred to as looping today, though technically, no loop is involved. |
