| English term or phrase: draft maps | The CAD module
The planners’ two days course was targeted at planning officials, including chief and senior planners. At first instructors demonstrated how to make CAD plans from paper-based maps, how to publish these plans on the web, and ways of empowering the local population to express their opinion on the plans. The planners had also the chance of discussing case studies. Firstly, digital maps were presented and then compared to the paper-based maps in order for the participants to notice the differences (higher accuracy, reproducibility, attaching non-geometrical data). Using a scanner, the instructor demonstrated how digital copies of paper-based maps could be created to make further processing possible. Then, the planners learned how to create and store thematic maps and how to print or export them. Besides draft maps created for professionals, it was also necessary to learn how to prepare presentations that were clear to the public, by creating 2D and 3D plans. The course set up for planners took place in the PC lab of the Department of Architectural Representation of the University of Budapest. For the purpose of the project, five new workstations were brought in to run modern CAD applications.
