Introduction
The last step of this Guide presents the evaluation of and the lessons learnt from the implementation of the PICT project in four European countries. In order to evaluate the effectiveness and impact of project actions, an external evaluator was contracted. The evaluator participated in all meetings of the Steering Committee of the project and had frequent communication with the project partners regarding project progress and problems that might have arisen. Most important was the evaluator’s contact with the target groups of the project, i.e. local inhabitants and planners in the pilot areas, who participated in the PICT activities. Participants in focus groups and the training sessions were asked to complete specially designed questionnaires. The training participant were asked to provide information before and after the completion of their course about their background, their expectations from the training course and their opinions on the relevance, effectiveness and friendliness of the training material as well as the perceived benefits from their participation in PICT.
