Reference information: the term overreaching IMO is used here to denote the surface. I assume the text is re/translated from another language because the meaning of overreach does not lend itself to this context. IMO the author wants to say that the slip is bigger than the surface, thus falling sideways.I guess you will have to provide more info. for an expert to state what it really means
