Maria..I can only help you by telling you that..... the Shunter is a small Diesel (usually) engine that stays in the yard and leaves only to go pick up train cars, pulls them into an empty train line or yard and assembles them into a larger train. The Shunter also pick us stalled train engines and brings them back in the yard for repairs etc ....
It could be that the shunter makes a lot of noise - hence the ear protection need and of course SHUNTING is what the SHUNTER does as I explained above ....but I have no idea what the greek word is .....
