English term or phrase: play out
Economic growth in Europe remains anaemic. In the first quarter of 2010, the eurozone and the EU-27 GDP growth has been of only 0.2 per cent. Yet
despite this marginal growth most of European governments have embarked on budget cuts and austerity in order to put their fiscal houses in order. This process will play out in parallel with household deleveraging in some countries as well as secular
trends—notably ageing—that will also bear down on growth. The continent faces
severe and simultaneous pressures on growth

θα περατωθεί / θα ολοκληρωθεί

Explanation:
σε αυτή την περίπτωση μήπως εννοεί :

play out (proceed to the end ) προχωρώ προς το τέλος, τελειώνω ρ.

Could it be the case - from what I can understand - that the process in question (budget cuts and austerity) is something already happening (this is why I suggest you use to proceed to the end - ολοκληρωθεί) and that the household deleveraging will have to come into play along with the procedures currently ongoing?

my humble opinion
