Explanation:
residential institutions can be anything, from homes for the elderly (γηροκομεία) οικισμοί για εργατων homes for neglected children, for the poor and suchlike. I know that IATE offers < οίκος ευγηρίας >, but I dont agree with this term, since there are many other institutions to be understood by residential institutions, see e.g. the following link:Children living in residential institutions - Social Policy for ... - Follow-up to Recommendation N° R(2005)5 of the Committee of Ministers to member states on the rights of children living in residential institutions ...

I would use <estia > and add the category of its inhabitants, such as e.g. φοιτητική εστία. Besides, outbreaks δοντ οoccur σε οίκη ευγηρίας μόνο.

Ioanna Orfanoudaki: ίσως λίγο περισσότερο συγκείμενο να είχε βοηθήσει για να καταλάβουμε αν πρόκειται για ηλικιωμένους, για άτομα με ειδικές ανάγκες, κλπ.

semasia: δεν χρησιμοποιείται η λέξη "εστία" - εκτός από "φοιτητικές εστίες", υπάρχει η Εργατική Εστία που είναι οργανισμός και μετά "εργατικές κατοικίες", "ιδρύματα", "οικοτροφεία" ο αγγλικός όρος είναι πολύ ευρής ώστε να εξαντληθεί πλήρως σε μια ελληνική λέξη

Efi Maryeli: Αν είναι να χρησιμοποιηθεί ο όρος εστίες, τότε μάλλον πρέπει να μπει και το "κοινωνικής πρόνοιας" μαζί. Ίσως θα ήταν καλύτερο το "ιδρύματα"
