English to Gujarati translations [PRO] Transport / Transportation / Shipping | | English term or phrase: Train | | Means Kara in Gujarati. But that also means car in Gujarati. This is confusing. Kara can't possibly mean 2 things train and car. So how would the person reading or listening to the word kara know what type of transport the other person talking, writting or typing refering to. |

| | Gujarati translation:ટ્રેન | Explanation: The word 'kara' (I assume you mean car) is often used to denote an automobile. The Gujarati word for car is gadi. For train, often the English word is used. The Gujarati word is rel or relve, for an express train it is jhadpi gadi and for a goods train it is malgadi. The word for a railway compartment (or car as in American English) is rel no dabbo. Sometimes it is shortened to gadi, and in this case you have to glean the meaning from the context. Nowadays, even the Gujarati newspapers and TV channels use the English word train so there should be no confusion. |
