"If the size of the document sent by the other party is as large as or larger than the recording paper, the unit can reduce the document and print it." --> So I guess its the configured paper size. I don't think there's a knife or anything, its suposed to be a new model. I think its the נייר הדפסה that you have loaded, or the type of it, but I want to know if there's a professional term.
"Remove the recording paper and straighten. Pull the tension plate (1) forward and hold open while inserting paper, then press {SET} to clear the message." --> This is the only context in which "Tension Plate" is shown. appearantly its something that holds the papers in the paper tray tight... or something...

could you provide any more context, such as the model of the fax?
The tension plate might be a part of the printer component of the fax. I also understand that Recording paper is the name of a part, and not type of paper. is this correct?
