English to Hebrew translations [PRO] Bus/Financial - Marketing / Market Research
English term or phrase:Prospect
OK, so I have this Sales/Marketing Theory text which uses lots of "prospect/s", and I translate it into the reasonable
לקוחות פוטנציאלים
and then, God forbid, it introduces "potential customers" into the text, and I'm left with a big gasp...
Any help diferentiating those two will be much appreciated!
Explanation: I'd use מתעניינים for prospects and לקוחות פוטנציאלים for potential customers. In fact I vaguely remember using both terms in a translation years ago, and the client didn't complain. Now all you have to do is hope you don't also have leads in your document...
Thanks, Shai, actually, I did consider מועמד but thought it is already widely used in different contexts and so will only be confusing.

I'm just adding this to make sure that you are aware to all of the options suggested, I'm not trying to "hunt" for points or anything. Sue's suggestion is also great in my opinion.

I guess you missed my response to your comment I suggested מועמד (not that Sue option is not valid as well), just due to the fact that prospects are your target crowd even before contacting you and inquiring about your productservice.

Explanation: זה אכן מבלבל אבל בעקרון גם די פשוט.
ההבדל הוא בשיוך של הלקוח למחלקת השיווק או המכירות.
השיווק פונה לקהל יעד ומנסה למשוך לקוחות לחברה. זה נעשה באופן כללי ביותר לפי חתכי שוק וכו'.
ברגע שהלקוח יוצר קשר עם החברה (עם המכירות למעשה) הוא הופך ללקוח פוטנציאלי.
כלומר פרוספקט קהל יעד שהוא חתך עסקי, או חתך אוכלוסיה מסויים איתם אין לחברה או נותן השירות קשר ישיר ואילו לקוח פוטנציאלי הוא לקוח שיצר קשר ובירר בקשר ליצירת הקשר העסקי.
ככה לפחות אני מכיר את זה וככה הייתי מתרגם את זה.
אם המקור לא היה עושה את האבחנה הייתי כמוך בוחר בלקוח פוטנציאלי לכל אורך הדרך, אך לאור ההבחנה במקור זאת ההצעה שלי

Asker: Thanks, Shai, that would be a great solution, were it not for the fact that it always refers to a SINGLE person, something you cannot elegantly do with קהל יעד.
