הכוונה היא למחקר שממשיך מחקר קודם, כלומר שאוכלוסיית הנבדקים שלו השתתפה במחקר קודם ו"התגלגלה" למחקר הזה כהמשך של הקודם.
מישהו העיר לי פעם (ובצדק, לדעתי) שהמילה "מחקר" היא הרבה פחות טעונה מהמילה "ניסוי" כשמדובר בבני אדם, ומאז אני משתמש ב"ניסוי" לניסויי מעבדה וניסויים בבע"ח, וב"מחקר" כשמדובר בבני אדם -- אבל זו העדפה אישית שלי.

Asker: Thanks Amir. What would your guess be regarding the actual meaning of roll-over trial? My guess would be מעבר לתרופה אחרת או טיפול אחר. Also please note trial = ניסוי, Study = מחקר...

נראה לי שהמשמעות כאן היא במובן של להריץ את הנסוי מחדש, לגרום לו להיעשות שוב, זה לא בדיוק כמו במובן הפיננסי שבו אותה כמות הכסף מתגלגלת שוב , כאן המובן הוא שהנסוי יורץ שוב מסיבות שונות שבין השאר יכולות להיות בגלל שינוי קל בניסוי עצמו . התרגום המילולי של לגלגל לא כל כך מעביר את המשמעות בהקשר של מחקר או ניסוי לדעתי
