Medical - Medical: Pharmaceuticals | | English term or phrase: lipid altering drugs | Lipid altering medications are used in lowering blood levels of undesirable lipids such as LDL cholesterol and triglycerides and increasing blood levels of desirable lipids such as HDL cholesterol.

Lipitor

Zocor
Is there a real distinction between those and lipid lowering medications? I mean, Lipitor for instance was also listed in places under the second definition. My problem is that both terms appear in the same sentence and I wonder if there is a real distinction or whether it was done so as not to use the same term twice...
My sentence:
"I will need to stop other lipid-lowering medications for the entire study. However, if I am in the placebo group I will be permitted to add lipid altering medication after week 52 up to week 76 depending on when I was enrolled in the study."
If anything, lipid-lowering is supposed to be a subset of lipid-altering, so it would have made more sense if it was the other way around. |
