אלגינאט זה חומר שעשוי מאצות. הוא נראה כמו צמר זכוכית ואפשר לקרוע אותו ביד. את החומר שמים בתוך פצעים אבל לא דוחסים אותו. הרטיבות המופרשת מהפצע הופכת את האלגינט לג'ל והנפח שלו גדל. הג'ל מחזיק את הנוזלים וכך הפצע לח אבל לא רטוב, שזה המצב הכי טוב לריפוי פצע. לאחר התקופה המוגדרת לעל ידי היצרן שולפים את הג'ל בחתיכה אחת, הוא לא מתפורר ולא משאיר שאריות בפצע.
