English to Hebrew translations [Non-PRO] Names (personal, company) | | English term or phrase: caraballo | | My last name. I heard that it is an italian name. please help me i have been searching for the translation for weeks now. thank you. |
| | | Saghi (with accent on the last syllable) שגיא | Explanation: Caraballo is the name of a mountain range. Therefore I turned it into a Hebrew word, which is also used as a not uncommon name, Saghi. It is an adjective, meaning "lofty" "Impressive" used in literary Hebrew to describe great mountaints.
Otherwise, if you only wish to transliterate your name, it would be
קרבאלו. But I wouldn`t use it because people will nickname you "Karbolet"-- כרבולת which is the red crest of a rooster.

Well, that`s what the Britannica com said.
Caraballo Mountains
mountains in central Luzon, Philippines. The range reaches an elevation of about 5,500 feet (1,680 metres). It joins the Cordillera Central to the north and the Sierra Madre to the east. Drained by the headwaters of the northward-flowing Cagayan River, the mountains are heavily forested.

| How do you pronounce it?
Explanation: In Italian, it would be ka-ra-ba-lo.
But in Spanish (which is more likely, I think) it could be ka-ra-va-yo.
The Hebrew transliteration of the first pronunciation is
קרבלו
and of the second
קרבייו
or
קרוויו

It suggests to me that it is a Spanish name: lots of your relatives are in Puerto Rico, apparently. You can contact them from the site.
