|English term or phrase: of|
|child OF cheshvan|
or OF akrav
as in born OF
54 mins confidence: 6 hrs confidence:
of=shel but not in all cases
English "of" does function like "shel"
in possessive expressions like "son of Joseph"
however, the resulting translation cannot be "ben (=son) shel yosef".
The two options would be
1. bno shel yosef
2. ben yosef (without shel)
1. The use of "shel", requires a marking on the head of the phrase, "ben" for possessive (similar to english 's), marking changes according to the gender and number of the possessor (Josef, in this case)
bno - singular masculine
bna - singular feminine
bnam - plural masculine
bnan - plural feminine
2. Alternatively, the two nouns can follow each other without 'shel' or any other marking as in the second option above.
