I've never heard such an expression and it's definitely not common in English (google gives less than 50 results) and the only case that I think it would make sense is that if you don't (preserve with patience), your pickles won't be salty enough ;o)
However, what does appear quite common and certainly more logical (although I haven't heard that before either) is "persevere with patience". So as usual we come to context. does the person have to remain patient or does he/she have to suffer through something with patience? in the first case I think your translation is excellent. In the second case, maybe
"לגלות אורך רוח חרף הקשיים" or even
"לסבול בשקט" |
