English term or phrase:Articles
I mean newspaper articles, but without the word "newspaper". It will be used as a title. I need both singular and plural forms.
I found लेख on Google Translate, but I'm not happy with it, because again both singular and plural are shown as the same. I'm looking for a slightly different ending for the plural.
Explanation: Normally, in a caption, the singular and the plural form would be लेख only. However, when the word appears in a sentence, then the plural form would be लेख or लेखों, e.g., उनके लेख, इन लेखों में.
Well, design is a far cry from article. So I'll go with लेख then. Thank you, Geeta, for the explanation of plurals. It was really a mystery to me until now, why singular and plural are thrown into one pot so often, when you can after all easily build a different ending. So it's only in the case of nouns ending in अ. Good to know. Not that I agree with this practice, but it's good to know. I guess, I can't change Hindi to be more consistent/logical. It is the way it is. If that's, how the people speak it, what can I do? But thanks, that was very enlightening!
It may be noted that in Hindi, nouns ending in अ don't have a different form in plural, so लेख will remain लेख in plural. Only when we attach some case sensitive suffix to plural form, it changes, as in लेखों में.
आलेख generally refers to a 'design'. The plural form will also be आलेख. Of the two, लेख is preferred.
Help! I don't speak Hindi! निबन्ध seems to me the least attractive. However, it bothers me that there's only one letter difference between लेख and आलेख, so are these two really one and the same word, with आलेख just being the fuller, older version? Should I go with आलेख, because it's more complete or should I choose लेख, because it got more peer agreements? Forgive me that I'm having a hard time to decide! Just help me! Give me some clues, as to what the difference is!
