Greetings,

I hope I'm right in thinking that one of the ways in which you can distinguish a picture of Rama is that he is always depicted with a bow and arrows.

I wonder, incidentally, if a different word is used from the normal Hindi term for a bow and arrows owing to the religious context.

धनुष-बाण

Explanation:
Yes, it is same as English only. Normally in Hindi "bow & arrows" called as "तीर और कमान" but in Ramayan and Mahabharata, it has been used in a bit more pure Hindi as धनुष-बाण where बाण is used for Arrows and धनुष is used for Bow.

धनुष और बाण, तीर कमान

Explanation:
In Hindi, bow means धनुष and arrows mean बाण, and the other common usage is तीर कमान (which is originally Urdu) where तीर mean arrows and कमान means bow.

कोदंड is another word for bow in Hindi and Lord Shiva is known as कोदंडी. पिनाक is the word in Sanskrit for bow which is used for Shiva's bow and Lord Shiva is known as पिनाकी. Some other words for bow are बाणासन, शरायुध शरासन and for arrows, there are other words like शर, सायक, वाण.
