„A dolgok további bonyolítása érdekében nézzük meg a Jeff Howe által bevezetett „crowdsourcing” fogalmát (Crowdsourcing Why The Power Of The Crowd Is Driving The Future Of Business 2008). Ez a fogalom – úgy tűnik – az előbbi értelmezés szerint szinte megegyezik az „open source”-al, mivel a „crowdsourcing” esetén egy adott tevékenységet a „tömegek” együttműködve végzik el – leginkább ingyen vagy relatíve csekély jutalmazásért - egy társaság, szervezet vagy intézmény helyett, ill. vele együtt. Az erőforrásokat leginkább a „tömeg” részvétele szolgáltatja.”
