Definition from own experience or research: A kámea, a későbbi ovális tablóképek őse, pusztán egy személy képét hivatott megjeleníteni kis terjedelemben. Ebből a gondolattársításból fakad, hogy a színpadon vagy filmvásznon főként csak magát megmutatni megjelenő színész szerepét cameonak, kámeának avagy tablóképszerepnek nevezik.

Explanation: Mivel a görög καμέα <káméá> szó cameoként került be az angol nyelvbe, régebben ezt az írásmódot követték a helyesebb kámea helyett. (Kötőjeles formája "cameo-szerep" pedig még nyelvtanilag is hibás, hiszen az idegen eredetű szó utolsó betűjét kiejtjük, ezért az összetételi tagot nem kötőjellel kapcsoljuk.) A kámea (kicsíny, ovális, pusztán egy arcot mutató dombormű) szinte teljesen ismeretlen fogalom, ajánlatos a jelentést jobban körülíró -- bár még nem túl elterjedt -- tablóképszerep kifejezés.
