\'köszönöm\' literally means \'I thank you\'.

If you intend to use it in the plural you may say:

köszönjük - meaning: we thank you

köszönet - thanks
hálás köszönet - thank you so much

Pronounciation:

\'ö\' is pronounced like the short vowel in *first*, *worse*; it is pronounced with rounded lips (O) :-)

\'sz\' is pronounced like the English \'s\', e.g. in *sit* or *sing*

\'é\' sounds like the vowel in *make* or *day*

\'á\' is pronounced like the vowel in the English word *cut*, but it is a bit longer. The length of the vowel is something like in *cart*.

\'s\': like in *sheep* or *wash*

The rest is straightforward.

Good luck!

Explanation:
The right word depends on the context. If you want to thank for the help of your teacher, then you use formal style:

Köszönöm!
or
Köszönöm szépen!

If you want to thank somebody for something, who you really know, and familiar with, (like a student or a friend) then you can you use informal style:

Köszi!
or

If you want to say :

Thank you very much!

Then you say:

Nagyon köszönöm szépen!
or
