Működési elv: Az érintkezőnyelveket inert gázzal töltött üvegcsőbe szerelik, így védik meg felületüket a szennyeződéstől, korróziótól és nedvességtől. Az érintkezők anyaga ferromágneses anyag, többnyire vas-nikkel ötvözet és az érintkezés helyén arannyal vonják be. A védőgáz 97% nitrogén és 3% hidrogén keveréke. Mágneses tér hatására az érintkezőnyelvek átmágneseződnek, köztük vonzóerő ébred és egymáshoz kapcsolódnak.”
