Egyszerűen arról van szó, hogy az esedékesség napján fizetett/átvett ellenérték fejében - for value on the due date - tekintik megtörténtnek a tranzakciót. For value paid/received üzleti nyelvben ennyit jelent: a kifizetett/átvett ellenérték fejében vagy ellenében.
