Gáspár Mátyás: Ez elvi kérdés, tisztázni kell, hogy a fennálló követeléseket hogyan kezeljük.

Szerintem valahogy így lehetne fordítani:
Az Ügyfél és ügyfelei között fennálló befizetési különbözetet alapvetően elvi okokból a feleknek egymás közt kell rendezniük.

A Magyar Bankszövetség 2003. I. negyedéves jelentésében ez a kifejezés fordítása (még ki is van emelve) - lásd link (egyik az angol, másik a magyar verzió)

Természetesen a szövegkörnyezet többet elárulhat. Ez csak egy javaslat, hátha hasznát veszed.

Egy példa:
The pro-life position is based upon respect for the God-given and unalienable right to life of all human beings. Even if one could make the case that RU-486 is safe for the mother, the drug is not safe for the child. It is intended to kill the child. As a matter of principle, therefore, RU-486 is inherently unsafe and unacceptable.

Azaz, szerintem:
Alapvetően elvi okokból (mivel bár az anyára nem veszélyes, de a gyerek élethez való jogait sérti), ennél fogva az RU-486 természetéből eredően veszélyes és elfogadhatatlan.
