Ha a szövegkörnyezetből egyértelműen kiderül, hogy hűtőbordákról van szó, akkor felesleges unos-untalanul a hűtőborda kifejezést használni (ahogyan az angolban sem teszik). Legtöbbször elegendő a borda szó használata.
Egy szószedet összeállítása esetén is különbséget illik tenni, pl. Járműszótár „cooling fin - hűtőborda, fin - borda”.
