Egy frappáns szót/kifejezést keresek a "bullying" ill. a "bullies"eredetikre, aminek a jelentésével tisztában vagyok, de eleddig nem igazán jó dolgok jutottak csak eszembe. Egy katona panaszkodik a seregről, magáról a katonaéletről, hogy ez az egész végül is az erőszakról szól. "We're just big bullies. Bullying's the fucking job. That's what you have a fucking army for."

Explanation:
Bullying is a strong form of intimidation, that might also involve actual violence or force so 'megfélemlítés' isn't quite strong enough.

I have seen 'erőszakos' and 'erőszakoskodás' used, but again these may not be strong enough in the context and with reference to the armed forces or with strong forms of bullying behaviour.

And it may be clumsy, but 'másokat terrorizáló ember' pretty much encapsulates the meaning of bully.

Köszönöm. Nagyon szép volt Levente fordítása is, sajnos, túl szép egy skót munkásosztálybeli, Irakot megjárt katona szájából (ez az én hibám, hogy nem pontosítottam a szövegkörnyezetet!). Sajnos, pont emiatt is a további (tök jó) megoldások szerintem egy nem ennyire kemény szövegben állnák meg a helyüket, bár a gyilkolás-on is gondolkodtam, de az talán picit szűkít. Mindenkinek nagyon hálás vagyok!

neutral  Katalin Horváth McClure: Ez így jól hangzik, de nem biztos, hogy ilyen értelemben használta a szerző. A gyilkolás lehet, hogy több, mint amire itt utalnak. A bullying gyakran megfélemlítés értelemben szerepel.

disagree  juvera: Nem meglepő, hogy a hadsereget összekötöd a gyilkolással, de a bullying nem gyilkolás, hanem erőszak, megfélemlítés, agresszió, brutalitás, terrorizálás stb. Mindegy, hogy milyen hadsereg és mikor, a szó értelmét nem lehet ennyire átkölteni.

  -> Nono, azért ne feledd: nem tudjuk, milyen (miféle) hadseregről és melyik korról van szó. Lehet ez a kolumbiai droghadsereg is, meg egy ókori sereg is, nem csak egy NATO-csapat. A megfélemlítés pedig pl. nem biztos, hogy erőszak.

disagree  Peter Boskovitz: It is, of course, "terrorizálás" from an outsider's point of view. However, it has a much more common name in the Hungarian army - used by the ones affected - which is "szivatás"!
