Pitch and roll: Movements of an object that are measured as angles. Pitch is up and down like a box lid. Roll is rotation. (See also 'yaw': movement left and right, like the opening and closing of a door.) These angles are normally called Heading, Elevation and Bank, or Yaw, Pitch and Roll. The second terms have to be used carefully because they are also the names for the three aircraft principal axes.
