English to Indonesian translations [Non-PRO] General / Conversation / Greetings / Letters
English term or phrase:Indonesian, Spanish, Tagalog
What is the Indonesian translation of the above languages?
Is it Indonesia, Spanyol, Tagalog
or
Is it Bahasa Indonesia, Bahasa Spanyol, Bahasa Tagalog?
Many Filipinos, as well as foreigners, have been misled into believing that Tagalog is the Filipino national language. The Philippine Constitution only provides that Tagalog be the BASIS of a national language that was to evolve. Tagalog was intended to be the foundation of the house, so to speak, not the house itself. Yet some some leaders, Pres. Cory Aquino among them, pushed for Tagalog, a move that was potentially divisive and politically inadvisable. A court judgment confirmed that Tagalog is not the national language, and should not be forced on the whole country as such.
If there is a national language, it has to be English, the language used in schools, the government, and the business sector.
You are precisely correct. Also, one word "bahasa" preceding three languages (Indonesia, Spanyol, Tagalog) is required instead of that preceding each language. It is an excessive use of words.
FYI "bahasa" means "language." Many people outside Indonesia think that "Bahasa" means "Indonesian" but this is not accurate. All languages can be preceded by the word "bahasa" if you are speaking in Indonesian or Malay.
